Around 80 children and young people attended the JOO! youth center last weekend. took part in the exciting media day “Pixel.Power” in Waren. This event, which is entirely dedicated to practical media education, was organized by the RAAbatz media workshop and the FutureFlow project in collaboration with the city of Waren (Müritz). The goal? To promote a creative and critical approach to digital content and to strengthen the media competence of the participants, as nordkurier.de reports.

The variety of workshops on offer was impressive. Among other things, the participants were able to immerse themselves in the world of computer games and learn how games are developed and implemented at the Greifswald Computer Games School. The young media users also had the opportunity to experience virtual reality up close and experiment with VR glasses. Creative workshops such as the Pictionary Air game, in which digital drawings were created in the air, also caused enthusiasm.

Practical media education in focus

Another highlight was the Makey-Makey workshop, which offered participants the opportunity to transform everyday objects into digital controls. They were also able to create small animated films in the stop-motion studio or print their own motifs on fabric bags in the screen printing workshop. Another interesting aspect was the “driving license test for the web”, which tested knowledge of data protection and safe surfing. As part of the FutureFlow project, the children and young people also recorded their wishes and ideas for the future on postcards, which are then collected in the future archive.
